Why did I do it?

The reasons I left a Corporate Cush Job.

I have encountered so many people that have asked why did I leave my corporate job. (And several also asked if I was hiring). There were many personal reasons, but I think it all boiled down to ONE reason. I realized that I could not make the difference that I wanted to make any more with the supplier community. I had hit a glass ceiling of influence for making a difference for the suppliers, where my heart and passion lies.

I wanted more than to help streamline a process for internal usage. I wanted to help the smaller and medium sized companies succeed and have a chance with companies like the corporate giant that employed me. I mentioned in my week one blog that I used to say a saying that "People don't know what they don't know." After that first week, I realized there was a lot that I didn't know about your food safety consulting options. And so my services began to evolve as I posted in my previous blog from last week. And this week, I'm focused on networking and getting the word out there of what I do.

While trying to figure out how to get YOUR attention, I realized that food safety consultants are a dime a dozen. Why do you need someone like me?

What makes me and my company different? It's the same reason that I left my corporate cush job.

I want to make a difference. I root for the under-dogs.

I want to see smaller to medium sized food companies succeed by teaching them what they don't know.

WIth over 20 years in the industry, I have a unique blend of skills that I have used in manufacturing and corporate environments and in the public and private sectors. I have had positions in the manufacturing plants including Quality Assurance, Product Development, and Supervisory roles and the facilities were union and non-union. So, I get the realities and hardships of budget constraints, contracts, retail and pressured decisions. I also know what corporate giants like The Kroger Co. want because I worked for them for a total of 14 years. The first 2 years were in one of their manufacturing facilities, and the last 12 years were managing vendor compliance programs in roles like Quality Assurance, Regulatory Compliance and I even spent a few years in Global Sourcing learning how to vet suppliers for bids for the company and assisting set up for direct importing. The most recent 2 years, I spent getting trained and developing a software solution to manage their compliance to the new FDA FSMA Foreign Supplier Verification Program Rule. They have stellar programs and I helped build a lot of them, so that also sets me apart.

During the last 2 years is when I started to see the NEW NEED rising in the industry. Organizations I encountered had no idea they were NOT meeting the new FSVP importer requirements and honestly THOUGHT they were. Suppliers also thought that it was the responsibility of my team to do the work. What they didn't understand is that my team had sent them a letter (that most signed) stating that we would not be responsible for that role IF there were 2 entities in the United States that could act as FSVP importer. And I know many other large corporate giants did the same thing. So, that's when the idea for starting a food safety business with emphasis and focus on FSVP services became a reality and Safe Food En Route, LLC came to existence.

SAFE FOOD EN ROUTE, LLC is here to help you with your food safety programs and make sure that you are fully educated on the law requirements applicable to your industry and make sure that you have a good understanding of what those corporate giants require of you to be a supplier.
